Chinese Authorities Issue Administrative Penalties for Infringement of Ube Industries Registered Trademark by Chinese Subsidiary of Novolyte Technologies

November 24, 2011

TOKYO, November 24, 2011_ Ube Industries, Ltd. (Head office: Ube City, hereafter "Ube") today announced that it has received information from the Suzhou Industrial Park Industry & Commerce Administration in China on the results of its decision concerning administrative penalties for an infringement of an Ube trademark. In October 2011, the Administration determined that the use of the Purolyte logo in China by Novolyte Technologies (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., for its electrolytes infringes on Ube's similarly named registered trademark in China, Purelyte, electrolytes for primary and secondary lithium ion batteries. Accordingly, the Administration has ordered Novolyte Technologies (Suzhou) to stop using the name, as it is a trademark infringement, and to pay a fine.

Ube continues to strive to develop the most effective measures possible for protecting its trademark-related rights and intellectual property as a whole, including cooperation with relevant authorities.
