TOKYO, April 18, 2006 _Ube Industries, Ltd. today announced that it had acquired ISO/TS 16949:2002 certification for nylon resin products. The certification applies to the following products: Ube Nylon 6, Ube Nylon 66, and UBESTA (Nylon 12). The ISO/TS 16949:2002 standard is an international specification for quality management systems used in the automotive industry. The ISO certification was awarded on October 26, 2005, after the company successfully passed the requirements of an audit conducted by UK-based Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Limited. The acquisition of ISO/TS 16949:2002 certification is the first for any nylon resin manufacturer.
The scope of the ISO certification covers the nylon resin manufacturing and technical divisions of the Ube Chemical Factory, which is Ube Industries' main production facility for nylon resin. Also covered under the certification are contract suppliers of compound and nylon resin sales offices in Japan, as well as sales divisions at overseas marketing subsidiaries in Germany, the US and China.
In addition to nylon resin manufacturing at the Ube Chemical Factory, the company manufactures Nylon 6 at production facilities in Thailand and Spain. Ube nylon resin is used in a wide range of applications including fuel, exhaust and brake system parts used by leading global automakers.
