UBE Commemorate 20 Years of Business in Spain

TOKYO, July 16, 2014 _ Ube Industries, Ltd. recently commemorated 20 years of business operations in Spain.*1 The milestone was celebrated with a reception and concert featuring the world-renowned Kodo drum troupe of Japan, on July 11, 2014 at the Auditorium of Castellon City in Valencia, Spain. The guests included Valencia Region President, Alberto Fabra, the mayor of Castellon, Alfonso Bataller, and the consul general of Japan in Barcelona, Hiroyuki Makiuchi. The factory tours of UBE Group employees' family are held twice in July as part of the celebrations. The 360 peoples are invited to visit the corporate facilities.

UBE Corporation Europe, S.A. (UCE), a holding company that oversees the UBE Group's operations in Europe, coordinates manufacturing and sales of chemicals in Europe and South America from offices in Castellon, Spain on the Mediterranean Coast. The UCE Group, which includes UCE and four UBE Group companies in Europe and South America, encompasses some 400 employees with sales offices in Dusseldorf, Germany and Sao Paulo, Brazil in addition to Spain.

Ube Industries gained its first foothold in Spain by acquiring shares in Spanish caprolactam manufacturer Productos Quimicos del Mediterraneo in 1994. Since then, the UCE Group has grown to become a major operation encompassing manufacturing and sales of core UBE Group products including nylon resins and fine chemicals.

In 20 years, the UCE Group has successfully expanded its business operations in Europe by focusing on the global markets. The group has improved manufacturing processes, expanded production capacity, and established development facilities to achieve significant growth over the last two decades.

The UCE Group is involved in ongoing job creation and community infrastructure development. In 2008, a Corporate Social Responsibility Department was established within UCE to spearhead various initiatives including for environmental conservation. Ongoing programs include sponsorship of local sports clubs, donations to non-governmental organizations, relationships with high schools and universities, and diverse volunteer initiatives by employees.
