TOKYO, December 17, 2015 _ Ube Industries, Ltd. today announced that it has decided to transfer its marketing and logistics operations for limestone-related products to Ube Material Industries, Ltd. (hereafter Ube Materials). The change will be effective April 1, 2016 and encompasses the integration of marketing organizations. The details of the change are outlined below.
Ube Industries engages in quarrying and external procurement of limestone, and manufactures and markets cement and limestone-related products.
Ube Materials manufactures and markets products made from raw material limestone, mainly supplied by Ube Industries. These products include quicklime (calcia) and magnesia clinker.
The transfer of the marketing and logistics operations for limestone-related products from Ube Industries to Ube Materials, and the integration of marketing operations, will optimize the Ube Industries Group overall. At the same time, the Group will endeavor to increase net sales and profits by expanding (1) sales of limestone-related products for flue gas desulfurization, (2) sales of limestone aggregates, (3) sales of neutral stabilizers and heavy metal insolubilization materials for soil improvement, and (4) international business development.
The transfer does not encompass limestone quarrying operations or cement manufacturing and marketing, which will remain with Ube Industries.
Marketing and logistics operations for limestone-related products handled by Ube Industries, and related assets, will be transferred effective April 1, 2016.
Ube Industries made Ube Materials a wholly-owned subsidiary in 2013 through a share exchange, and has sought to maximize synergies by pursuing unified business strategies and realizing cost reductions. The integration of the marketing organizations for limestone-related products will further accelerate the strong collaboration between the companies, in aiming to further enhance the corporate value of the Ube Industries Group.
