Donations to Watanabe Memorial Book Collection and Watanabe Culture Association Picture Book Collection

The UBE Group donated a total of \800,000 to the Watanabe Memorial Book Collection and the Watanabe Culture Association Picture Book Collection, both housed in the Ube City Library, for the purchase of books.
The Watanabe Memorial Book Collection is mainly comprised of large and expensive arts-related books, while the Watanabe Culture Association Picture Book Collection lends out books to kindergartens and daycares in Ube City.
Yuzuru Yamamoto, Director of the Watanabe Memorial Culture Association, presented Kimiko Kubota, mayor of Ube City, with celebratory envelopes. The mayor in turn presented Yamamoto with a certificate of appreciation and thanked the association for its donations.

Purpose of Initiative (Objective)
  • Build a collection of expensive and rare art books, for the municipality to provide its citizens with a place to appreciate culture
  • For the municipality to provide picture books to kindergartens and daycares for the healthy development of children

Children have had more opportunities to read books due to the pandemic. We hope to reach the next generation as part of their education and make the collection a point of civic pride.”
